
Small First Due Fire, Yingling Drive, Box 53-08
This evening at 2044 hours, Station 53 along with Truck 79 (Hanover Area) Engine 47-1 (Jefferson), Tanker 47 and MICU 79-1 were alerted for a residential structure fire on Yingling Drive in the 53-08 box of Heidelberg Township. Engine 53-1 and the Chief with a crew of 5 along with Engine 53-2 and Chief 53-1 with a crew of 3 were both on the street within 5 minutes. Engine 53-1 arrived with nothing showing from the exterior and Captain 47 reporting smoke from the breaker box. Engine 53-1 crew pulled an attack line and entered the basement for investigation with a light smoke condition. Chief 53 established the command with LT 53-1 assuming the subdivision. Engine 53-2 arrived and the crew began laddering the building and set up to supply Engine 53-1. Truck 79 arrived and checked division 1 and assisted with investigation. Engine 47-1 and Tanker 47 arrived and their manpower was sent to staging. Adams electric was requested to the scene due to several residents in the area reporting a power surge.
During operations, four firefighters were stung by yellow jackets from a nest in the ground close to the electric meter with two being evaluated by MICU 79-1 on the scene. Chief 53-1 assumed command and Ambulance 52-2 (Pleasant Hill) and Adams MICU 54-4 were dispatched in case members required transport; these units were eventually canceled as no one required transport.
The fire was contained to the breaker box in the residence and the residence was ventilated. The Box was placed in service at 2136 hours.
Both of the members that were evaluated by EMS returned to their firehouses with their apparatus.
