
MVA with ejection requires aviation
On Wednesday, August 3rd at 1516 hours, York County 911 alerted Hanover Area Fire and Rescue (79) to Blooming Grove Road and Smith Station Road in Penn Township for a Motor Vehicle Accident with unknown injuries. Engine 79-2, Rescue 79, and MICUs 79-2 and 79-1 responded and located the incident on Smith Station Road, just south of the Sailboat Launch entrance of Codorus State Park in Heidelberg Township. One vehicle was over the guard rail with severe damage and one person ejected and down a steep embankment. Chief 79-2 established the Command, advising of the updated location. Aviation was requested to transport the patient and Station 53 was alerted to establish a landing zone for Life Lion. Chief 53-1 arrived and assisted Chief 79-2 with command. Crews from 79 located and moved the patient to the MICU with a stokes basket. While checking the involved vehicle, a child seat was located. Additional EMS units from Spring Grove EMS (MICU 4-3) and Pleasant Hill (Ambulance 52-1) were dispatched. An extensive search of the area for any pediatric patients that may have been involved until local police departments could confirm at the patient’s residence that the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. Engine 53-1 arrived and assisted Utility 79 with the landing zone. The patient was transported to a local trauma center with critical injuries by Life Lion. Fire Police from 53 and 79 closed Smith Station Road between Hoff and Blooming Grove for the duration of the incident. Two towing companies were required to remove the vehicle. PA DCNR Park Rangers are handling the ongoing investigation.
