Dear Prospective Member,
We are pleased you are interested in becoming a member of the Porters Community Volunteer Fire Company. We are seeking committed individuals who wish to contribute time and talent to the community as a member of our organization. Before you complete the attached application, however, we urge you to read this letter completely so that you understand what is required to be a member of our company.
We have six categories of membership:
All applicants, except junior applicants, will have a Criminal Record Check run with the Pennsylvania State Police. The Membership Secretary will run this background check upon receipt of your application, along with your $5 application fee. All members will abide by the rules and regulations set forth in the By-Laws and the Standard Operating Guidelines of this company. All new members will be placed on a probationary status for a period of six months. During that time he/she must attend at least four monthly meetings and must complete two company functions per month.
All members from the age of 14-18, unless graduated from high school, shall be known as Junior Active Members. All members from the age of 12-18, unless graduated from high school, belonging to the Auxiliary, shall be known as Junior Active Auxiliary Members. All Junior Members must obey the Child Labor Laws.
All senior members, Active or Auxiliary, must pursue the basic training required for their status within the company. Any member within the company is eligible to vote as long as they have attended four company meetings a year, which include any special called meetings and have completed 20% of fundraising activities quarterly or have completed 10% fire calls and 10% fundraising activities quarterly.
All active firefighting members who are issued gear and pagers must respond to 10% of the quarterly fire calls or their issued equipment will be pulled.
Dues are $6.00 and must be paid for a two-year membership. All dues are paid biyearly and must be paid on or before the first monthly meeting of the calendar year. If dues are not paid by the second Tuesday of January, membership will automatically be dropped unless a written excuse is given.
After we receive your application and run your criminal background check, a member of the Investigating Committee will contact you to schedule a time for your interview. Most interviews are held the last Sunday evening of the month. Once your interview has taken place, your application will be presented at the company meeting, held the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm. You are required to be present at this meeting.
