Engine 53-1 To Spring Grove For Fire In Row Home
At 1057 hours this morning, Engine 53-1 was alerted on the 1st Alarm Assignment for Box 4-01 for the High Risk Structure Fire on East Street in Spring Grove Borough. Engine 53-1 responded in 5 minutes with a short crew.
The Fire Police Captain from Station 47 (Jefferson) was in the area and arrived first reporting smoke showing from the end unit of a 3 story row of 5 and requested the working fire assignment.
Truck 11 (Nashville) arrived as the first Engine and laid a supply line from the hydrant at Church and East and established the Command. The crew advanced an attack line to the third floor of the residence reporting heavy fire. Engine 4 (Spring Grove) arrived and conducted a primary search of the residence, which proved negative.
Engine 53-1 arrived and staged the Engine at Railroad Street and Hosiery Alley. Upon hustling to command, the crew was immediately put to work, forcing entry into the D side exposure, conducting a primary search and proceeding to the third floor, which had heavy smoke banked to the floor but no heat. The crew opened walls and ceilings on the third floor alongside the crew from Engine 12 (North Codorus) which stretched an attack line into the exposure. Truck 79 (Hanover Area) arrived, laddered the building and accessed the roof via Truck 11’s aerial. No extension was found in the walls or the common loft.
The fire was held to the residence of origin thanks to Truck 11’s aggressive interior attack.
