Both 53 Engines to Adams County 33 Barn Fire

Station 53 was dispatched at 1240 hours to assist United Hook & Ladder 33 with the Barn Fire on Hershey Heights Road in Berwick Township. Engine 53-1 had initially been requested, however a second Structure Assignment was dispatched in the 79-01 Box of Penn Township almost immediately after the Barn Fire dispatch. With the Barn Fire being in a non-hydrant area, Engine 53-2 responded to that incident with Chief 53-1 on board, with Engine 53-1, crew of 6 with Chief 53 on board, responding to the 79 Box as it was in a hydrant area. Engine 53-2 was ordered into the Tanker Shuttle immediately upon arrival. The 79 Box turned out to be the barn fire visible from that area and Engine 53-1 was canceled. Chief 79 then requested Engine 53-1 to transfer to Station 79-2 as all 79 units were committed on the Barn Fire. While enroute to the transfer assignment at 1250 hours, Engine 53-1 was picked up on the 2nd Alarm Assignment and responded to the scene. Engine 53-2 hauled 8 loads of water in the shuttle and the crews from both engines rotated manpower to assist with extinguishment and overhaul.
