Double Pull To North Codorus For The Tire Pile On Fire

This afternoon at 1303 hours, Box 12-71 was alerted for the large outside fire on Kraft Mill Road in North Codorus Township. Units from Stations 12 (North Codorus) and 47 (Jefferson) responded, with Tanker 47 arriving first reporting a large pile of tires well off. Chief 12-1 requested Engine 53-2 as an additional Tanker on the assignment. Engine 53-2 responded in less than a minute with a crew of 3, advising command that a crew was also available for Engine 53-1, which was subsequently alerted and responded immediately. Engine 53-2 arrived and initiated a supply to Tanker 47 and put the crew to work. Engine 53-1 arrived and dropped 500 feet of supply line around the barn for a better attack position and deployed the bumper line.
The fire was darkened down with water, with foam being used to complete extinguishment and overhaul.
Tanker 11 (Nashville) and Tanker 8 (York New Salem) also responded to the scene, with Engine 4 (Spring Grove) handling the Tanker fill site at Station 47.
Units operated for approximately 2 hours.
